Just a few more weeks until the end of 2009… feeling a little stressed?
This month, make some time to revisit your EcoAction commitments and do right by the Earth. She’s exhausted, overworked and you can help. How?
- Add greener habits to your lifestyle
- Read environmental news and books* that interest you
- Talk about the environment with your family and community and encourage others to do what they can
- Use EcoAction Teams to stay motivated and passionate about saving our planet.
End the year knowing that you are doing something good for the world.
Yours,
The ‘Team’
*Editor’s recommendation: Pick up Al Gore’s latest book Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis. If you have a book lover on your list, this book covers effective solutions that are available now to address climate change. Presented in a reader-friendly format with issue-based chapters and a helpful index, the colourful, revealing photographs of the world’s inhabitants and spaces are a visual spectacle.
You spoke, we listened
Last summer, EDC’s EcoAction Teams program conducted a thorough program evaluation which included market research, surveys, and interviews with program stakeholders. Boy, did we learn a lot!
Here are a few key findings: 96 percent of program users enjoy learning about the environment online; 72 percent feel that EcoAction Teams has helped them conserve energy and water, reduce waste, and choose sustainable transportation and local food. Many respondents identified the need for French content and weighed in on the program name.
We value what we’ve learned and are very excited about what’s on the horizon. Based on the emerging needs of key groups we want to reach, we are working to transform EcoAction Teams into an accessible, inclusive, and interactive web program. By expanding our online offerings and developing cross-sector partnerships, we will better serve our stakeholders and give them more of what they want. Stay tuned for more updates!
The Green Scene: Dreaming of a green holiday season

Although this a wonderful time of the year, it’s also the most wasteful. From excessive spending to throwing out wrapping paper and ribbons and endless amounts of decorations, the holiday season is definitely the most difficult time of the year on the environment.
There are countless things you can do during this holiday that will benefit your health, the environment and your wallet. Read more...
EcoAction out and about
Hello New Brunswick!

The EcoAction Teams program manager visited Fredericton, NB in October at the request of the New Brunswick Climate Change Hub. It was a great opportunity to present the ecoaction calculator to stakeholders in Fredericton.
Thank you to Eddie Oldfield and Nadine Ives for organizing the presentations, panels, break-out sessions and a film screening to boot. You showed us that we can learn from each other and work together to promote positive environmental change.
Climate Change Champions in Hamilton

EcoAction Teams staff were invited to attend a press conference and working session organized by Climate Change Champions Hamilton last October. Climate Change Champions, a community partner of EcoAction Teams, is a project that assists local organizations in designing customized plans to reduce their energy use and cut greenhouse gas emissions. The event celebrated the accomplishments of the 24 organizations involved in the project. Congratulations to all these organizations. Keep up the good work!
