EcoAction Tips
Compact fluorescent lightbulb
Energy Tips - Miscellaneous
  • The Dirt on Dishwashers
  • The latest dishwashers have become much more efficient and are now seen as more environmentally sound and economical than washing a load by hand. And because dishwashers use hotter water temperatures than a hand-wash, they are considered more sanitary.
  • Proper CFL Disposal
  • CFL bulbs possess a minute amount of mercury but if broken do not pose a health risk. Simply sweep up and be careful of the broken glass. Like batteries and other hazardous household waste they need to be disposed of properly.
  • A Glowing Review
  • Different CFLs give off different types of light. The lower the colour temperature, the warmer the light. The closest to the yellowy glow of regular incandescent bulbs is 2,700K. The higher the number the whiter, cooler and bluer the light. Most ‘daylight’ bulbs are about 6,500K.
