-
Let the grass grow longer before you cut it and start grasscycling – the practice of leaving grass clippings on the lawn after mowing. The clippings will dehydrate then decompose on your lawn, returning nutrients to the soil nature’s recycling method.
-
Consider the amount of sunlight your garden gets. Leafy vegetables, for example, can be grown in partial shade but plants producing fruit must be grown in direct sunlight. A back yard or some other plot near your home in full sunlight is the most convenient spot for a home vegetable garden. However, poor drainage, shallow soil, and shade from buildings or trees may mean the garden must be located in an area farther from the house.
-
When you have no gardening space, turn to the unused space right outside your windows.
-
Join your local garden club or horticultural society. The benefits of joining range from receiving discounts at local nurseries, access to club activities, events, and resources, and meeting people with your shared interest.
